Chris Allen Sherwin, of St. John, IN, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at the age of 50.
Chris was born to Allen and Marie (Serpe) Sherwin on June 8, 1970, in Chicago, IL. He grew up the eldest of three surviving children and attended Morton High School in Berwyn, IL.
Chris started working at the age of seven, managing three newspaper routes, and ended his career as a Sales Consultant for Mike Anderson Chevrolet, earning the distinguished Mark of Excellence Award for Sales.
With his kind and honest approach to business and life, Chris met and made countless friends and will be greatly missed by his customers and coworkers alike.
In 2013, at the age of 43, Chris married Andrea (Freyek) Sherwin. Hearing the news of his impending nuptials, his mother said, “He just waited for the right woman to marry.” Chris and Andrea were married in a private loving ceremony surrounded by dear family and friends.
Chris was a devoted stepfather to Andrea’s two children Jackson and Isabel Spanburg. If there was an award for most patient stepfather, Chris earned it over the years by dropping off forgotten lunches; fixing dolls, guitars, and cars; sitting in emergency rooms at all hours of night; and driving through rain and snow to rescue one or both from flat tires and failed engines.
Chris was also a devoted father to his first and eldest stepson, Alex Tortorice, whom he loved dearly and raised as his own son.
Chris is additionally survived by his sister Kim Sherwin; his brother Shawn (Liliana) Sherwin; nieces Brittany Dougherty and Tearny Sherwin, and numerous cousins – all of whom Chris held dear in his heart. He is preceded in death by his parents Allen and Marie Sherwin and infant siblings Lisa and Bret.
A memorial service celebrating Chris’ life is being planned by the family and will be shared with invitees.
As Chris would want, donations should be made to the charity closest to your heart. Any donations sent privately to the family will be used to offset medical expenses and be further donated where possible.
