Shirley A. Evans was born June 28, 1943 in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of John and Doretha Heard. She attended and graduated from Froebel High School, Gary, Indiana. In March 1972, Shirley married Jerry L. Evans. Shirley was a resident of Gary her entire life and a retired employee of Gary Community School System. Shirley was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on April 18, 1998. She remained faithful to Jehovah the rest of her life.
Shirley fell asleep in death on October 3, 2021.
Shirley loved Jehovah, her God first and foremost. She loved telling others about her God and the hope she had. She loved family and friends. One of her pastimes was playing cards (bid whist), her nickname was “Have Cards Will Travel”
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Doretha Heard and her grandparents Hosea and Ellen Taylor.
Shirley leaves to cherish her memories, her loving husband, Jerry L. Evans, her devoted son Brian L. Cooper, her devoted daughter La Tanya A. Evans, her brother David L. Heard (Patricia), sister Ada Martin, her loving first cousin Cynthia Walker, special friend Sheryl Sangster, two nieces Michelle Heard-Simpson (Terry) and Gloria Jones, two nephews John Edward Ross and David L. Heard Jr. (Crystal), 4 Great nieces, 5 Great nephews and a host of other relatives and caring friends. Shirley will truly be missed.
