Alma Helena Kiuru Morris, beloved mother and friend, passed away on August 20, 2024 at the age of 90.

Alma was a dedicated mother and grandmother who found joy in raising her son and spending time with her friends, family, and grandchildren. She had a passion for her family, travel, singing, and sailing, and enjoyed sharing these interests with those around her.

Alma was born September 10, 1933 in Woodstock, CT to parents Andrew and Johanna Kiuru.

Alma graduated from Woodstock Academy, Woodstock, CT in 1951. She also earned a degree from Endicott College in Beverly, MA. After high school she moved to Boston where she worked at a law firm and then at Itek Corporation where she met her husband, Cornelius Morris. She lived in the Boston area for most of her adult life, fondly living for years in Cambridge, Marblehead, and Hamilton.

Some of her happiest years were when her son, Ned, was in school and she got to be a second mom to his friends as well. Included in that group were exchange students who benefitted from her nurturing and mentorship. Later, Alma was a beloved aunt to her (adoptive indigenous) grandnephews who spent happy hours in her company.

She received the President’s Volunteer Service Award for her many years of service at several organizations including Mass Eye & Ear, the Boston Center for International Visitors, and the World Affairs Council.

Throughout her life, Alma had the opportunity to travel to 24 countries across Europe and the Americas, experiencing different cultures and creating lasting memories.

As the last remaining member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Johanna, sisters Rachel (Kiuru) Fleagle, Anne (Kiuru) Abell. Aili Kiuru, brothers Matthew Kiuru and John Kiuru, and her nephew John Fleagle. Her husband Cornelius Morris, passed away in 1986.

She is survived by her son Ned Morris, his wife Toni Morris and two granddaughters, Alice Morris and Isobel Morris, her niece Nancy Fleagle Williams and nephew Robert Fleagle.  She was very proud of her Finnish heritage and is also survived by a long-extended family in Finland.

Alma will be remembered for her kind heart, generous spirit, and love for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will be forever treasured.
