Barbi Nisenfeld Ullery completed her three-year journey with pancreatic cancer on June 1, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones at home in Porter, Indiana. She put up a valiant fight and was an inspiration to many for her unwavering positive attitude and determination.
Barbi, along with her twin Marc, was born on February 1,1953 in Philadelphia, PA, to parents Albert and Blanche Nisenfeld. She joined siblings Eli, Dena, Cy, Jay, Frank, Howard and Steven. She graduated from Philadelphia High School for Girls and then worked in a variety of occupations, mostly in office management. She was very involved in Al-Anon for many years, providing support and inspiration to many. She also loved reading, spending time with her family and friends, working in the yard and spreading kindness. She mentored many cancer patients over the last three years.
Barbi was devoted to her three children, Aaron Wasmer, April Bryce (and husband Will) and Aydin Wasmer (and wife Cassandra). In addition to her children, she is survived by grandchildren Zoe, Kiel, Jozalyn, Reahlyn, Ethan, Connor (and wife Tinasia), Tyler and Lexi. She is also survived by her three great grandchildren, Anna, Leo and Zorion.
A big focus of Barbi’s life was her dogs; she was a huge supporter of rescuing dogs, the bigger the better. She leaves behind her beloved Whiskey, Remmy and Winston. Many previous fur babies will be meeting her on the other side.
Many thanks to her oncologist, Dr. Tareq Braik, and the incredible office staff at NW Health Porter as well as the compassionate staff at Dunes Hospice.
Barbi was pre-deceased by her parents, sister Dena and brothers Eli, Cy, Jay and Howard.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled soon. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation in her memory to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or Pet Refuge, Inc. of South Bend.
