Connie Jeanne Poole passed away peacefully at home in Crown Point, Indiana, on November 8, 2020, after a valiant fight with ALS, just one month after her 69 th birthday.
Connie grew up in South Bend, Indiana, daughter of Howard and Josephine Grover. A graduate of Riley High School, Connie played flute in the band and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the local 4-H chapter.
Connie continued her education at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, where her high school sweetheart, William Poole was already a student. Before long, in 1971, Bill and Connie married. After graduation, the couple moved to South Bend and then to Kalamazoo, Michigan, where their son Matthew was born. Two years later after moving to Springfield, their family was complete, with the birth of daughter Megan.
Connie’s love of music led her to pursue playing the dulcimer and Irish harp. However, her expertise at sewing and love of color and fabric led her to quilting, where her true passion blossomed.
Connie also loved animals, wild and tame, especially cats. Throughout her life, she mothered several of her own dear felines, as well as supported the local rescue shelters.
When the diagnosis of ALS came, Connie and Bill faced it bravely and with grace. They became favorites at the numerous doctors’ offices and clinics because of their sense of humor, high spirits, and obvious love for each other. Nothing was going to keep them down: They traveled to Hawaii for an early celebration of their upcoming 50 th wedding anniversary.
Connie leaves behind her beloved husband William; son Matthew (Sherrie) Poole of Kalamazoo, Michigan; daughter Megan (Michael) Curtis and grandchildren Zackery and Kaylin of Wheatfield, Indiana; brothers Chuck (Irene) Grover and Craig Grover; nieces Michelle (Ryan) Palmer, Morgan (Jason)  Featherstone, and Jordan Poole; nephew Christopher Poole; great-niece Paige and great-nephew Noah; and other extended, loving family members and friends who will miss her greatly.
A Memorial Visitation will be held Sunday November 22, 2020 1-4pm at Memory Lane Funeral Home, 6305 W. Lincoln Hwy., Crown Point, IN 46307. Service at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to make a donation in Connie’s memory to Team Gleason Foundation or ALS Association Indiana Chapter.
