Gary Weiand, 62, of Chicago, Illinois, formerly Whiting, Indiana, passed away on August 5, 2022 after his courageous battle with cancer. He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends.
No matter the circumstance, Gary had a smile on his face and showed kindness to all. Beloved by everyone who ever met him, he was a wonderful son, brother, cousin, friend, and the “Favorite Uncle”. Gary was born on August 28, 1959 to Joan Demkovich and the late Kermit R. Weiand. In 1977, he graduated from Whiting High School and went on to graduate from Calumet College of St. Joseph. Gary found a career he both enjoyed and excelled at while working for 23 years at White House Post Productions.
Gary enjoyed traveling, but cherished the City of Chicago. There he was blessed to have a group of very close friends that he considered a second family. He enjoyed entertaining and spending time with the ones he loved.
He is survived by his mother, Joan; his siblings: Linda (Bill) Dixon, Sheri (Jim) Harbin, and Michael (Elizabeth) Weiand; his niece and nephews; numerous great nieces and great nephews; and many cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
“He Only Takes the Best”
God saw you getting tired,
and a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around you,
and whispered, “Come to me”.
With tearful eyes we watched you,
and saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly,
we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
hardworking hands at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove,
He only takes the best.
