Jeffrey R. DeLay (69), of Brook, Indiana passed away unexpectedly, on May 17, 2024. He was born in Rensselaer, Indiana on February 12, 1955.
Jeff is a graduate of South Newton High School, class of 1973. He also attended Purdue University.
Jeff was an extremely talented gardener. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing (especially ice fishing), and mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed helping others when he could, even after death. His organs were donated through the Indiana Donor Network.
Jeff most enjoyed spending time with his only child. They raised livestock together, for Newton County 4-H, for 10 years. He continued raising livestock (sheep, rabbits, and chickens) until his passing. He was a farmer at heart. He also loved helping his daughter with any projects at her house.
Jeff is survived by his daughter Ashley DeLay (Reed Steiner) of Perrysville, Indiana, his brother Jerry DeLay of Marshfield, Missouri, and his sister Jenny DeLay of Phoenix, Arizona. He is also survived by his step children from a previous marriage, Joshua Emerson (Tara), Karen Emerson, and Megan Emerson (Andrew Julius). He is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Dorothy DeLay, and his significant other Rhonda Herron.
To honor Jeffrey’s memory, no service will be held, but at a later date his ashes will be spread at his favorite place. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Indiana 4-H Foundation in Jeffrey’s name.
