Joy Anna Valek (nee Wunderlich), 88, of Portage, Indiana passed away on November 17, 2020.

She was born in Barberton, Ohio on July 21, 1932.

Joy enjoyed her first job, working summers while in college, at the Barberton Public Library. Joy attended Kent State University and received a Bachelor’s degree in Science in Elementary Education. She then furthered her education at Indiana University, where she earned her Master’s degree as a Library Media Specialist. Joy worked for many years in the Barberton, OH school system and then continued her career with Gary Public Schools. She enjoyed belonging to many different groups through the years: Mensa Chapter of NW Indiana, Civil Air Patrol, EAA 104 in Valparaiso, Confederate Air Force, Indiana Dunes Chapter 99, International Organization of Women Pilots, as well as being an active member at Portage 1st United Methodist Church and then Chesterton United Methodist Church.

Joy was married to Karol Valek who preceded her in death in 2018.

She is survived by her daughter: Marcia (Richard) Guth, former son-in-law: Ronald Langendorfer, Grand-daughter: Laura (Daniel) Schuster, great-grandchildren: Hannah & Henry Schuster, siblings: Ruth Patterson and David Wunderlich and many nieces and nephews.

No services are planned at this time, however, a celebration of life will be planned in Spring 2021; post Covid.
