Kathleen went to be with the Lord on May 4th, 2020, after a short illness, at home, surrounded by her family and closest friends.
She was born June 29, 1948, in Michigan, the daughter of the late Richard and Priscilla Duffy. She was the 7th of 13 children. On December 13, 1969 she married Michael J Schimpf, who survives in Florida.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Stacey and Robert Young of Michigan City Indiana, son and daughter in law Michael and Shelly Schimpf of Georgetown Texas, son Merrick Schimpf of Michigan City and daughter Christine Schimpf of Beverly Shores Indiana. Grand daughters Allyson Young of Michigan City and Shelbey Leasure-Bartelheim of Alton, Illinois as well as a great grand daughter Charlotte Sajdera of Michigan City. She also leaves behind 5 brothers, Richard Duffy of California, Doug Duffy of Oregon, Alan Duffy of Colorado, Matthew Duffy of Alabama and sisters, Patricia Duffy of Arizona and Barbara Matthews of California and god son Jacob Betts. She also leaves behind very special friends James VanDeKeere, Robert Stanford and Dottie and Jerry Pankey. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Raymond, Brian, David, Steven and Timothy and god son Eric Thaler.
Kathleen grew up in Beverly Shores Indiana. In her teen years she moved to Chicago and worked at Stranco products as a secretary. She met her husband Michael in Chicago in 1967 and they were married 2 yrs later, after several years of marriage they moved back to Beverly Shores Indiana to raise their children. She was very active in St Ann of the Dunes Church in Beverly Shores for many years gladly donating her time and efforts to many church functions. She lived at Share Foundation caring for the people with disabilities as their 2nd mother for quite a few years which brought her great joy as she was always a caretaker. In 2005 she moved to Washington state and lived with her mother until returning back home to Indiana in December of 2016 where she lived with her daughter and caretaker Christine until the time of her passing. She enjoyed spending time with her close friends and loved ones. She loved nature and animals and spent much time watching it either out the window or on tv. She had a special connection with Beverly Shores and Lake Michigan and spent her final days there. She will always be remembered for her giving nature and huge loving spirit and of course her witty personality. Memorial contributions can be made in her name to Share Foundation for the Handicap in Rolling Prairie Indiana or Frieds Cat Shelter in Michigan City.
