Mary Rose Darnell 68, of Knox, IN formerly Schererville, IN, passed away by family on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
Survived by her husband of 24 years John L. Darnell, children, Eric R. (Melissa) Smolinski, Scottie M. Smolinski, Mary R. (Rocky Garibay) Wagner, Joseph R. Wagner, stepchildren, Brian J. (Anna M.) Darnell, Ryan C.R. (Jessica) Darnell, Megan E. (Greg) Elbaor, grandchildren, Atticus; Cash; Ellie; Bannon; Vic; Lincoln; Naomi; Lydia; Noah; Lily; Eli; Ian; Gavin; Jeweliana, her twin brother, William (Jeannie) Mayer, and siblings, Tommy Mayer, Jimmy (Joan) Mayer, cousins, Anne-Marie Dillon and Carol Darnell.
Preceded in death by parents, William and Mary Mayer, granddaughter, Elena Darnell, aunts, Millie Zappia, Carmella Zappia, June Zappia, Betty Baltas and Katie Zappia.
Mary successfully worked for Goodwill, helping people with barriers maintain their employment within the community for 24 years. She was a devout Mother. She will be remembered for being generous and always lovingly protective of her children. Mary enjoyed motorcycle trips with her husband and weekend getaways.
A Celebration of Life in Mary’s honor will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm, at House of Pizza, 7008 Indianapolis Blvd, Hammond, IN 46324.
