On Tuesday, February 9th, 2021, Randy Joe Owens passed away peacefully at Methodist Hospital in Merrillville, Indiana.
Randy was born on August 6th, 1962 in Huntsville, Alabama to Dorothy Jean Owens. He grew up in Chicago and joined the Army at age 18. He had a number of wonderful careers in steel mills, physical therapy, trucking, and management settings.
He is survived by his wife, Solongo Owens, as well as many wonderful family members and friends. He helped raise 2 sons and 2 daughters; Randy Joe Owens II, Khuslen Solongo, Amanda Owens High, and Amina Solongo Owens, as well as two grandsons; Alexander and Theodore.
Randy was always the main character anywhere he went. He had a thunderous personality that usually overtook the room. He was rarely in a bad mood and was always determined to make any event a party. If you ask people about Randy, they would say he was so funny and so nice. Randy would starve before he left anyone else to go hungry. He loved to travel, but could usually be found watching sports. He also had an unhealthy adoration for The Chicago Bears and Elvis Presley.
Randy joked more than he was serious. While his death was unexpected, he requested not to have a funeral and his wish was for family to place his ashes near a beach so he could listen to the waves crash into the shore. The family plans to hold a memorial in his honor in the future. We thank you all for your love and support.
