Shirley J. Doyle, a long-time resident of Homewood, IL, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on August 3, 2024. Born on December 21, 1934, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many.
Shirley was married to Robert E. Doyle, who preceded her in death. Together, they built a loving family and a lifetime of cherished memories. Shirley is survived by her children, Brian J. Doyle (Sally) and Sandra L. Doyle (John). She was a devoted grandmother to Kristin Doyle (Stephen), Eric Doyle, Brittany Springfield (Dane), and Lindsay Doyle. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Ariah, Aeron, Declan, Mara, and Emmett, as well as many loving step-grandchildren.
Shirley had a passion for knitting, often donating her beautifully crafted pieces to hospitals for newborns. Her love for sweets, her grandchildren, and animals brought joy to all who knew her. Professionally, Shirley worked as a secretary, beginning her career at U.S. Steel, where she met her beloved husband, Bob. She later worked at a medical office and a school for behavioral health students. An exceptional typist, Shirley once won a state championship for her skills.
A dedicated homemaker, Shirley kept her home immaculate and filled it with love. Her baking, particularly her homemade desserts, were truly wonderful, making every holiday special with her delicious treats.
Shirley J. Doyle will be remembered for her dedication as a mother and wife, her generous spirit, and the warmth she brought into the lives of those around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Memorial Service in Shirley’s honor will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Free Spirit Interfaith Church, 701 E. Clark Street, Crown Point, IN.
Public visitation from 2:00pm – 4:00pm with service to follow at 4:00pm.
