Carrie Dean Powell, was born Carrie Dean Austin August 15, 1944 in Belzona, Mississippi to Jimmy and Edith Herrod Austin. She was a citizen of Gary, Indiana and a graduate of Froebel High School Class of 1962. She retired as a Quality Control Technician from Bivonia Medical Technologies. Carrie enjoyed music and her family dearly. She was a queen with a graceful spiritual presence that many loved and adored.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jimmy and Edith Austin, husband James Powell, son DeMarco L. McGhee, grandson Jeremiah R. McGhee, and devoted companion John “Quick” McGhee. She leaves to cherish her memory sister Fannie May Austin, grandchildren Shanika N. Person and Shelinda D. Saah, with a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, friends, and community family.
