Charles “Charlie” David Meitzler, 86, of Valparaiso, IN, died peacefully on August 4th, 2021. He was born in Rapid City, SD to the late John and Nelly Meitzler. He is preceded in death by His Brother John, stepdaughter Kara Sullivan. He is survived by his devoted wife, Carole; brothers Jimmy Meitzler, Wayne Meitzler, step-daughters, Coleen Wilder, Lynda (Don) Anderson, Cyndi (Keith) Reed; step-sons, Harry Waelde, Jeff (Lily) Smith, Kevin (Stephanie) Lancaster; grandchildren, Clifford Malings, Julie (Chris) Crider, Brittany Waelde, Lindsey Waelde, Perry (Anna) Fishel, Rhiannon Waelde, Caleb Riddle, Josh (Megan) Riddle, Jaynie Waelde, Abi Tarnow, Kennedy Kidd, Logan Kidd, Polly Lancaster and great grandchildren, Zach Crider, Cari Crider, Maeve Fishel and many loved nieces and nephews.
Charlie served in the United States Army From 1958-1962. After his time of service, he became a carpenter and worked in the residential construction industry, constructing many homes in the Lake, Jasper, and Newton County areas. He was a very talented carpenter who shared his gifts by helping his family. He was the inspiration for two of his sons who followed in his footsteps and chose construction as their careers. His physical strength and ability were second only to his love for all his family.
